Experience the Best of Sri Lanka in 10 to 16 days
From atmospheric jungle ruins to awe-inspiring golden beaches. From thrilling elephant encounters to misty tea stations, spreading across the cool hills like an emerald blanket.
Two weeks in Sri Lanka gives you the time you need to experience the best this bewitching island has to offer.
Starting in the intoxicating capital of Columbo, you can plunge into frenetic markets, stroll alongside the majestic Beira Lake, and find peaceful oases in some of Sri Lanka’s holiest temples. Food options are endless – from gourmet extravaganzas overlooking the ocean, to enticing street food in the night markets. Watch out for cheeky monkeys trying to pinch your rotis!
It's then off south to sun-kissed Galle. Its rich maritime history, museums, boutique shops and world-famous cricket ground might tempt you to stay, but excitement awaits along the coast – like blue whales off Matara; pristine beaches in Tangalle.

Then turn inland for one of the great Sri Lanka experiences: elephants at dawn in Udawalawe National Park. It’s not a matter of whether you’ll see a tusker, it’s how many you’ll snap from your open-top jeep.
You can’t go to Sri Lanka and not experience the historic tea stations of the hilly interior, and Ella is the ultimate romantic stopping point after a meandering train journey with to-die-for jungle views. Whether whiling away hours on breeze-kissed verandas or testing your mettle with heart-pounding hikes, there’s something for you.
Beyond Ella there’s the lamplit pilgrimage up Sri Pada – or Adam’s Peak. As sunrise breaks you’ll witness the shadow of holy mountain cast over the clouds below. Then there’s the extraordinary view at the cliffs of World’s End near Nuwara Eliya – the historic and temperate “city of light” hill station.
Venturing further up the tear-drop island you’ll revel in the bustling city of Kandy with its rich culture, sacred Buddhist sites, and fantastic food, before escaping to one of Sri Lanka’s most awe-inspiring visions – the looming Sigiriya, or Lion’s Rock – dominating the elephant-trampled landscape.
From there, the monumental ruins of Anuradhapura await in the northern plains. Lizards could be your only company as you cycle or walk between the evocative remains of the Sinhalese civilisation, marble-white stupas poking above thick green vegetation.
You may wish to push further north to the Tamil heartlands of Jaffna, or east to the surfers’ paradise of Trincomalee. Or meander back towards Colombo, digesting priceless memories (as well the tastiest curries you’ll ever eat!).
